    June 2020

“There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don’t know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don’t know we don’t know.” - Donald Rumsfeld

Even though it wasn’t said about COVID-19, I think this quote summarizes the past eight weeks as well as anything I have read or heard in the news. Like every business, we are striving to understand the best way to get back to normal while protecting the health of our employees and their families.

In the markets where we operate, construction has been confirmed as an essential business, so for the past two months, we have continued to safely manage our projects—generally from our homes following the guidelines that were established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Online meetings have become the norm. On-site, subcontractors and suppliers have been working closely with our superintendents. Despite the upheaval, I am pleased to report that all our projects have continued to make good progress.

As everyone returns to work, we are working through a new reality. The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way we operate and are likely to operate well into the future. I would like to thank our customers, staff, and subcontracting partners for continuing to find new ways to keep our projects moving forward, despite the difficulties.

We look forward to a return to the good old days of February, when it was possible to have lunch in a restaurant, embrace an old friend or even see smiles that are not currently visible behind the masks. We are looking forward to getting together with everyone in the not too distant future!
