POSITION TITLE:  Controller, Paul Hemmer Company

LOCATION:  Fort Mitchell, Kentucky

ABOUT THE COMPANY:
For over 100 years owners and developers of medical, distribution, manufacturing, office and retail properties throughout the region have come to know and trust Paul Hemmer Company (“Hemmer”) as a provider of complete, single-source design and construction services. Hemmer also provides building care and maintenance services and engages in select real estate development opportunities.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
The Controller is responsible for the financial reporting, operational controls, IT, and treasury management of all business groups within Paul Hemmer Company. The Controller is a key contributor and hands-on role model for high performance and efficiency. The Controller is essential to continued company growth, profitability, and development of all team members.

The Controller reports to the CFO and has the following direct reports:

  • Accounting Manager (1)
    • The Accounting Manager supervises two A/P Specialists
  • Senior Accountant (1)

More specifically, the Controller will:

  • Effectively lead staff providing clear expectations, opportunities for skill and job growth development and timely constructive feedback
  • Produce monthly financials, and analyze and monitor financial performance of Hemmer business units. Present these results to executive team and each division’s leaders.
  • Produce cash flow and profit budgets/forecasts
  • Create/maintain appropriate dashboard reporting related to the Hemmer business units
  • Manage the cost allocation process for each Hemmer business unit
  • Oversee maintenance, monitoring and advancements to existing ERP, job cost and work order systems
  • Oversee the timely delivery of compliance reporting to lenders
  • Responsible for treasury management functions, including managing bank accounts, implementing controls related to wires/ACHs, and administering online banking access.
  • Maintain and (as necessary) develop or augment policies, practices and procedures relating to financial management, HR, and IT
  • Assist with certain HR related activities, including payroll process
  • Coordinate insurance audit
  • Coordinate annual review by outside accounting firm
  • Coordinate tax return preparation by outside accounting firm
  • Responsible for IT related items across the Hemmer business units
  • Oversee 3rd party IT service
  • Other tasks as assigned

IDEAL CANDIDATES’ QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • BS in Accounting or Finance required; MBA, CMA and/or CPA highly desirable
  • 8+ years’ experience, public accounting and/or construction or real estate accounting experience preferred
  • History of successful staff organization and development and a passion for teaching/mentoring
  • Attention to detail and deadline driven
  • Proactive and organized
  • Strong interpersonal skills – ability to communicate well (orally and in writing) and willingness to volunteer an informed point of view
  • Strong creative and critical thinking skills and the ability to exercise sound judgement and make decisions
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency
