Project Description

The Freestore Foodbank’s new $32M, 224,000 sf facility serves as a community resource center and distribution center for the local non-profit organization. The building was developed to combine five separate facilities into a single new headquarters, increasing the efficiency and capacity to support the Cincinnati community. The facility will increase distribution capacity, expand the refrigeration space for fresh food, and improve freezer storage allowing the organization to double the number of meals served each year. It also will include hands-on training and classroom space to enhance the Freestore Foodbank’s signature workforce training programs, Cincinnati Cooks, and Lift the Tri-State.

The 23-acre site of the Freestore Foodbank is part of the Riverside Yard development. The site was previously used as a rail yard and a dump site for construction of Fort Washington Way prior to being developed.

The Freestore Foodbank partnered with the design-build team of Paul Hemmer Company and KZF Design to deliver this project. 

The construction of the project was supported by 43% MBE/WBE participation.
