Paul Hemmer Company is proud to serve as the general contractor for the transformation of General James Taylor Park in Newport, Kentucky. City leaders, project partners, and community members gathered on July 20 to celebrate the official groundbreaking of the $7.5 million riverfront improvement project.

Located along Riverboat Row near the confluence of the Ohio and Licking rivers, the project represents one of Newport’s most significant investments in its riverfront in decades. The renovated park will create a more welcoming and accessible public space for residents and visitors while strengthening connections throughout the surrounding riverfront area.

Planned improvements include expanded green space, new walking and biking paths, pickleball courts, a dog park, a performance plaza, a kayak launch and a scenic overlook. The project will also incorporate additional trees and landscaping designed to reduce hardscape, improve stormwater management and enhance the park’s natural environment.

The development will include Phase 6 of The Riverwalk, extending the paved trail through the park and along the Licking River. The new connection will link the park with the Levee Trail, Ovation development, and the future Fourth Street Bridge as part of the broader Riverfront Commons initiative.

Paul Hemmer Company is honored to work alongside the City of Newport, Corporex, ATA Architects and the other project partners helping bring this important community investment to life.
