Project Summary

Hemmer Construction Company served as the general contractor for the new Wawa convenience store in Hebron, Kentucky, helping bring one of the region’s first Wawa locations to Northern Kentucky. Located at 2335 Water Tower Drive, the project included construction of a new convenience store, fueling station, and associated site improvements to support Wawa’s continued expansion across Kentucky and the Greater Cincinnati market. This project reflects Hemmer’s experience delivering fast-paced, brand-driven retail construction where schedule, site coordination, customer experience, and adherence to national standards all matter. The finished store provides a high-traffic retail destination serving local residents, commuters, and travelers in the growing Hebron market.

Key Features

  • Ground-up retail construction: New convenience store construction delivered from site preparation through final turnover, including coordination of building systems, finishes, exterior envelope, and store-ready conditions.
  • Fueling station infrastructure: Construction scope included fuel canopy coordination, fueling area layout, site circulation, pavement areas, and the supporting infrastructure required for a high-volume convenience retail operation.
  • Site development and utility coordination: Work included coordination of site grading, stormwater management, underground utilities, paving, sidewalks, curbs, lighting, signage infrastructure, and vehicular access.
  • Brand-standard exterior and interior buildout: The project required close adherence to Wawa’s prototype design standards, finish requirements, equipment layouts, customer flow, and operational needs.
  • MEP systems coordination: Mechanical, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, lighting, controls, and life-safety systems were coordinated to support the store’s food service, retail, fuel, and back-of-house operations.
  • Turnover-ready delivery: Final construction activities included punch list management, systems startup, inspections, owner/vendor coordination, and preparation for store opening.
